Hugh Laurie

About: Born on June 11, 1959, in Oxford, England, Hugh Laurie attended Cambridge University, where he was a champion rower. Forced to stop athletics for health reasons, he joined the celebrated comedy troupe the Footlights Club, where he met fellow thespian Emma Thompson and, through her, Stephen Fry, who became Laurie's longtime comedic collaborator on a variety of projects, including the TV shows "Jeeves and Wooster" and "A Bit of Fry and Laurie."Most widely known for his role in Britain's "Blackadder" comedy series, Laurie rose to prominence in the United States with his portrayal of the cynical Dr. Gregory House in the medical drama "House, M.D.," a role that's landed him multiple Emmy nods and Golden Globe awards.He has also portrayed memorable characters in films such as Sense and Sensibility (1995), 101 Dalmatians (1996) and Stuart Little (1999).
