About: The daughter of a Royal Navy pilot who died in an air crash when she was 5, Kristin Scott Thomas was born in Cornwall, England, on May 24, 1960. Six years after her father's death, her stepfather, also a pilot, died in a similar crash, and Thomas helped raise her four younger siblings.At 19, Thomas moved to Paris to work as an au pair. There, she enrolled in L'Ecole Nationale des Arts et Techniques de Theatres and began an acting career, playing small roles on stage and television. Thomas appeared in several French and British films but didn't gain international recognition until she played Hugh Grant's jaded but secretly lovelorn friend in the British sleeper hit Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994).Other notable films include Angels & Insects, The English Patient (for which she earned an Oscar nomination), Mission Impossible, The Horse Whisperer, Random Hearts and Gosford Park.
